I was born in St. Stephen, South Carolina. I am the youngest of eight children. My parents were Calvin Sr. and Rosa Lee Alston.
I was raised in the Allen Chapel AME (African Methodist Episcopal) Church and became a member of the United Methodist Church in 1983.
My wife, Sandra Henegan Alston, is from Charlottesville, Virginia but was raised in Washington, D.C. Sandra completed her Doctorate in Audiology in 2008 and is currently employed as a Clinical Audiologist at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Sandra has a passion for exercise and healthy living.
Sandra and I have a son and a daughter: Nicholas and Meaghan Alston.
Meaghan, the older, loves to travel especially outside the US. She graduated from OSU with her history degree, her Masters in Library and Information Science at U of Pitt and is currently employed at Howard U as an archivist.
Nicholas graduated from Missouri U with a degree in Hospitality Management. He is an entrepreneur and an avid rugby player.
